When I started researching the Youngstown Fire Department and it's history, I started documenting the people that were part of the department through the years. I began with a simple notebook in which I would record firefighters names and other information such as appointment date or retirement date as I was searching through the newspapers. The notebook quickly gave way to a Microsoft Access database which I still rely on today. This Access database now contains over 1100 names and information about the people who made up the Youngstown Fire Department. The database doesn't just cover the paid department, it covers the years of the volunteer fire department as well (1868-1891) and is available by entering a search term in the box below.
How Can You Help?
I am continuing to add names and information as I find it. You can help also, if you know ANY information about a YFD member or if you are/were a YFD member and would like to share information to be added to the database, please take a minute to complete the online submission form. Any information you can provide will help tremendously.
