A budget deficit again looms for the city. Talks of laying off up to 60 workers total from various city department is proposed.


 

 


May 22, 2005

A 2-alarm fire destroys the Youngstown Matress Company Building at 460 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The building was a total loss.


July 19, 2003
A 2-alarm fire damages the structure at 787 Wick Ave.



November 6, 2005

A 2-alarm fire hits the Diamond Sparkler storage building at 555 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.



December 31, 2005

A 2-alarm fire destroys a house at 42 Indiana. City firefighters had to contend with heavy snow and cold temperatures.

January 23, 2008

An early morning arson fire claims the lives of 6 people, including 4 children, at 1645 Stewart Avenue on the East Side.



June 5, 2008
A 2-alarm fire breaks out at the Four Seasons Flea Market at 3300 McCartney Rd on the East Side. 6 engines and 2 ladder companies responded. Four buildings were destroyed.



September 15, 2009
Fire breaks out in a warehouse at Banner Supply at 103 E. Indianola Ave on the South Side. 5 engines, 2 ladders, and the squad responded. The fire was contained to the warehouse area of the complex.



March 10, 2010
A second alarm is struck for 260 W Federal St, Power's Auditorium and the DeYor Preforming Arts Center, after crews have trouble finding the cause of smoke in the complex.

2nd YFD Ride Along with Engine 7.


April 3, 2005

An April snow storm moves through the Mahoning Valley dropping several inches of heavy wet snow on the city and surrounding suburbs. The calls for wires and trees down began shortly after 2am. Total snowfall was around 5 inches.

The City takes delivery of two matching Pierce Saber 1250gpm pumpers. One assigned as Engine 2 at Station No. 2.

The City takes delivery of two matching Pierce Saber 1250gpm pumpers. One assigned as Engine 7 at Station No. 7.



August 24, 2008
youngstownfire.com celebrates its 10th anniversary.

September 29, 2008

The City takes delivery of a 2008 Pierce Velocity Quint. The truck can carry 500 Gallons of water, has a 1500GPM pump and a 75 foot ladder. It will be placed in service as Engine 3 at Station 3.


October 17, 2008

Members of the Youngstown Fire Department and County Commissioners dedicate the Spring Commons Bridge across from Station No.1 the Fallen Firefighters Memorial Bridge.
