Today in YFD History: November 1947 – Ahrens Fox Fire Engineering Advertisement

In 1947, the Youngstown Fire Department took delivery of two matching Ahrens Fox Model ECs. Model EC9097 was numbered for Engine 2 and EC9098 was numbered for Engine 11. R. N . Smith, the Vice President of the Ahrens Fox Fire Engine Corporation contacted the Youngstown Fire Department via a letter on November 26, 1947 asking if they could use the two pumpers in their next advertisement in Fire Engineering Magazine.

A request was also made to Youngstown Fire Chief Clarence Thomas for a letter saying how the city likes their new trucks. Chief Thomas obliged and replied a couple days later with this well written response.

Along with the letter, the following photo was taken and sent along. Station 7 was chosen as the backdrop for the photo of the new Ahrens Fox Engines 2 and 11.

The completed ad then ran in Fire Engineering.
